LongHua City 上海龙华旅游城

Apart from visiting the LongHua Temple, we have also wandered around LongHua city. This place is quite lively with lots of restaurants, fast food (MacDonald, Kentucky Fried Chicken) Tesco supermarket, Nihong Kid's Plaza, etc.

The city's office website can be found at: http://www.longhuacity.com/.

Longhua, the Historic Town Longhua, which has a long history, is one of the famous ancient towns south of the Yangtze River. Situated in the southeast part of Xuhui District, it covers an area of 8.08 sq. km and has a population of over 40,000. At Longhua is found the thousand-year-old Temple of Longhua that features on its grounds an ancient pagoda. Here is also located the Martyrs' Cemetery of Shanghai and the memorial hall of Huang Daopo the ancient weaving lady of China.

Just in front of the LongHua Temple is the LongHua Pagoda. This pagoda is not opened to public because it is very old and building is not stable for people to enter. It is fenced up with a brick wall. However, public could still view it from outside and also a far. It is quite a view standing out from the middle of the city.

The seven-storied, 40.4 meters high Longhua Pagoda stands in front of the Longhua Temple. The Longhua Pagoda is the only remaining pre-modern pagoda in Shanghai city. It has an octagonal floor layout. The size of the seven storeys decreases from the bottom to the top. The pagoda consists of a hollow, tube-like brick core surrounded by a wooden staircase. On the outside, it is decorated with balconies, banisters, and upturned eaves. These outer decorations have been reconstructed in keeping with the original style. Bells on each corner of the octagonal eaves make cheerful and lively sounds as the wind passes by.

Although previous pagodas existed on the same site, the current brick base and body of the pagoda was built in 977 during the Song Dynasty (960-1279), with continuous renovations of its more fragile wooden components on the exterior. Because of its age, the pagoda is fragile and is not open to the public.

In front of the pagoda entrance there are 2 statues of lion and a fountain.
We have also came across a Nihong Kid's Plaza here. This plaza is not in the basement but is in the 2nd storey of the building. Not many stores and also quite run down.

There is a pedestrian crossing that is called "廊桥". It is not the normal pedestrian crossing that we know of because there are 2 escalators.

Unfortunately escalator not working - thus need to use the stairs

We have not had enough time to explore the city because we lack the time and also moved to the next attraction nearby.
