Shanghai Botanical Garden 上海植物园

Today we decided quite late in the morning where to go. Weather is cloudy after it has been raining for the past few days. With lucky there was no rain today. Yesterday night was considerably warm. Finally we decided to go to place nearby so that we do not have to spend so much time traveling. At 10.00am we headed for Shanghai Botanical Garden.

Shanghai Botanical Garden is located at 1111, Longwu Road in Puxi. Roughly less than 1 hour drive from our apartment through highway A20. Entrance fee is RMB15 per person adult [garden only]. Of course children below 1.2m is free. More information can be obtained from website :

Quite reasonable entrance fee. However, the RMB15 does not cover other attractions like Bonsai garden, and 3 other sections.

Entrance Ticket
This is quite a big garden with lots of different structures and plants. Like this mega structure right after the entrance painted in bright red color.

There is a lotus pond

and flowers, lots of different flowers...

not to mention bamboo plants

and rivers

There is even an old torn down windmill
Along the way, there are various different landscaping according to different themes.

We could see that there is a garden landscape featuring the theme for the upcoming Beijing Olympics in Aug 2008. The mascot for Beijing Olympics, Fuwa is constructed out of garden plants trim to form the mascots.

Small feature garden at the site whereby we took a short rest after walking for quite a distance from the main entrance.

After spending about 1 hour plus in the botanical garden, we decided to go back. In fact we have not covered all the attractions in the garden. Mainly because Ethan already tired out with all the running around the garden and asking daddy to carry him most of the way as we reached the Beijing Olympics theme garden. It was quite a warm day as well and we were sweating. The botanical garden does not have many shades and quite open, thus we decided to call it quits and go back.

Perhaps we would come back again when there is a change in the seasons and most flowers attraction are displayed here.
