Shanghai Lao Fan Dian 上海老饭店

Today we have decided to take the weekend off from hectic touring of Shanghai vicinity as we did for the past 3 weeks and go have lunch with our friend. The restaurant we have gone was at the famous Lao Fan Dian restaurant 上海老饭店 at Yu Garden 豫园.

This restaurant is recommended by my driver and serves authentic Shanghainese dishes. After coming to Shanghai for 2 months, I have decided to let Ai Yoong and Ethan get a taste of Shanghainese food. This restaurant is situated strategically at one corner of the bustling streets of Yu Garden. Our driver dropped us about 100 metres walking distance away because the roads here were blocked and there was no easy access to the front door of the restaurant. From far one would be able to see this building. Thus, you would not be able to miss it. In fact just across the street is a huge store selling gold jewelery and ornament.

We did not make any reservation even though it was a Saturday noon time. According to my engineers we have came here multiple times before, registration is not really needed. The restaurant people asked us to head for 3rd floor and we have no problem getting a table for 7 of us including Ethan.

We ordered the famous recommended fish and prawn dish and some other dishes. The fish and prawn are quite nice. Shanghainese dishes are quite sweet because they use a lot of thick sweet soya source.

After eating, we went to one of the shopping whole saler mall that my friend recommended. It was of walking distance from this restaurant. Here they sell lot of kids and teenagers stuffs.

We hanged around the vicinity before heading back to the place where my driver dropped us. On the way, we could see lots of souvenirs shopped along the road.
